The likes of science daily always publishes studies on how the Earth is warming because of human made CO2 even as far back as 5000 years ago. From the public’s point of view, 2007 to 2008 have noticed a huge cooling trend while other measurements show the earth’s temperature peaked in 1998 and has been dropping ever since.
“The University of Illinois’ Arctic Climate Research Center released conclusive satellite photos showing that Arctic ice is back to 1979 levels. What’s more, measurements of Antarctic ice now show that its accumulation is up 5 percent since 1980.”
However, in science daily they paint a different picture…
Final figures on minimum ice coverage for 2008 are expected in a matter of days, but they are already flirting with last year’s record low of 1.59 million square miles, or 4.13 million square kilometres.
Funny part was I was unable to locate the final numbers on how much ice there was in science daily that would confirm their story’s predictions. You would think that would have been huge news in science daily since it likes to publish one side of the story on that issue. However, I did find a more recent article from the U.S. Climate Change Science Program this month in science daily.
“If you take reduced ice thickness into account, there is probably less ice overall in the Arctic this year than in any other year since monitoring began,” said Martin Sommerkorn, WWF International Arctic Programme’s Senior Climate Change Advisor.
Temperature change in the Arctic is happening at a greater rate than other places in the Northern Hemisphere, and this is expected to continue in the future. As a result, glacier and ice-sheet melting, sea-ice retreat, coastal erosion and sea level rise can be expected to continue.
Just to name a few in other parts of the world, it was 39 degrees in Florida, and it also snowed 3.1 inches in Vegas, which shut down the city, the most snow since 1979. Ice in the Antarctic has been increasing. Temps for 2008 are lower than 2007. The over all temps have been going down since 1998 even though we have had high levels of man made CO2. Man made CO2 represents only a small trace compared to what is produced in nature. The Russian Government, has overwhelming evidence that earth is on the verge of another cooling period not an ice age.
This sounds like 1979-1980 all over again. I remember those years and how cold and snowy they were. Only this time you have massive government money paying scientists who are advocating global warming while those scientists who disagree are not getting the same type of coverage. Historically, the Earth has warmed and cooled with no connection of human made CO2.
“Dr. Kunihiko, Chancellor of Japan’s Institute of Science and Technology said this: “CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one way or the other … every scientist knows this, but it doesn’t pay to say so.” Now why would a learned man say such a crazy thing?”
I think he said it in a nutshell, “money” also political opportunities, fame even the belief of returning a pretty good portion of the earth back to the animals as a religious reason. Many people who have embraced the New Age Movement believe in this concept that advocates a “mother earth.”
From what angle you look at it, global cooling is becoming a factor. Although I don’t believe we will go through another ice age, but I do believe this is an historical cooling period rather than a man made one. Just like how we experienced some warming periods.
